On Independence Day on Wednesday, the Assam government wanted to steal the show by planning to hoist a 310-ft national flag. However, eventually, it was not hoisted for reasons not known. The scheduled hoisting was at 9am but till 2pm, it was not hoisted.
According to the authorities of Gandhi Mandap, the hoisting did not take place as some construction work was in progress at the site. Dozens of people, who had thronged the area to witness the gigantic flag’s hoisting, were dejected. They criticized the state government for its alleged irresponsible attitude.
