HAFLONG: In a shocking incident reported from the Dima Hasao district of Assam, a 39-year-old woman was abducted by miscreants who suspected her to be a witch and tortured horribly.

A lady named Nunsiami Nampui who is from the Biate community was abducted by force from her house in New Sangbar village and taken to the Bankri village under Umrongso police station.

Her husband followed the abductees all the way to Bankri, but initially did not dare to confront the youths.

The abductees then locked the woman in a room and reportedly assaulted her, both sexually and physically. She said that she was even made to eat cow feces.

Her husband with the help of some locals eventually managed to rescued her and they admitted her to Umrongso Primary Health center. Doctors referred her to the Haflong Civil Hospital for further treatment as her condition was quite critical.

According to sources, the woman is in great distress and having trouble swallowing both food as well as water.

According to reports, a woman from the Bankri village who was lying ill for the past several days said that she saw the woman in her dreams causing her illness.

Yesterday, the Biate Student Association (BSA) of Haflong unit called a press meet regarding the matter.

William Nampui, president of the BSA's Haflong Unit, condemning the incident, termed it as an "attempt to murder."

"All the culprits must be given strict punishment. If they go free, we are willing to move ahead to take further steps to ensure justice for our sister," he said, before urging citizens to amplify their message via social media.
