Guwahati: Man-Elephant conflict has been a major issue in Assam and often the result turns out to be the death on either one of them. Similarly, on Friday, a 40-years-old man was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Shantipur in Baksa’s Indo-Bhutan Border.
The deceased person was identified as Ajay Das, a local of the area.
Locals said that over the past few days, a herd of elephants have been roaming around the village and the locals had attempted to chase the herd back to the forest several times.
Das was among the villagers who had gone to chase away the jumbos but he was unfortunately trampled to death by the elephants.
Tamulpur MLA Jolen Daimary following the incident visited the spot and took stock of the situation. He also announced that the deceased's family would be given financial aid from the government as soon as possible.
