Through the memorandum, the community has urged the Chief Minister to "safeguard" the Bengali community in Assam.

Furthermore, the organization complained to the Assam Chief Minister that many bonafide citizens are being harassed in the name of NRC, and many voters have been tagged as 'D' (or doubtful) voters. As many as 44 persons have committed suicide due to this alleged "harrassment" and D-Voter terror, the Bengali organization lamented.

Citing examples of Bengalis suffering under the current regime, the body pointed to the case of a certain Madhubala Mandal, who had been 'unlawfully' kept in a detention camp for over 2 years.

Another Bengali man, Pradip Shill, had been abducted from the Serfanguri market in broad daylight. The organization also urged the Chief Minister to look into this matter.

Also, a certain Falu Das in Nalbari had also expired, allegedly due to "curse of D-voter terror".

Moreover, the Bengali organization also demanded Government jobs for the kin of the people who were killed during the Dhola incident.

It may be mentioned here that the final Assam NRC was published on August 31, and left over 19 million people "stateless". Now, however, the Assam Government has urged the Centre to "reject" the NRC and include Assam in the nationwide NRC, with the same cut off date for the entire country.
