DHUBRI: The staff of the Dhubri Circuit House was frightened over a sudden appearance of a huge suspected cobra snake inside a room of Dhubri Circuit House today.

The snake was hiding under a sofa in the room.

Today morning Anbamuthan MP, DC, Dhubri informed Dipak Chandra Deka, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Dhubri about the situation and requested a rescue operation.

The DFO immediately dispatched his staff to the Circuit House.

Later, Harish Chandra Nath, Ranger of Dhubri Forest Check Station reached the spot, and with the help of eminent environmentalist, Mehtab Uddin Ahmed of Dhubri rescued the snake.

When Ahmed arrived, he discovered that it was an Indian Rat Snake, the scientific name Ptyas mucosa.

The Indian Rat Snake was 6 feet long weighing 1kilo 300 grams. It is a non-venomous snake.

Ahmed then safely rescued the snake, which was hiding under a sofa in the room in the presence of Anbamuthan MP, DC, Dhubri.

Later, the snake was released in its natural habitat by Ahmed and Harish Chandra Nath, Ranger Dhubri.
