Guwahati, April 22, 2019:

Sad tidings from Assam as a 7-year-old child studying at Guwahati city's Holy Child School has been expelled by school authorities for being 'slow'. This is a very puzzling development as educators are trying to adopt a more 'holistic' ways of imparting education to children amid revolutionary learning techniques being introduced across the world to facilitate the process of learning.

The child's father also wrote to the Executive Director of UTSAH, an NGO that specializes in child's rights. He wrote: "This is to bring your kind attention to a very grave and inhumane situation for my daughter who is barely 7 years old, named ________ studying in KG section "B" in Holy Child SchoolChandmari, Krishna Nagar, Guwahati 781003 who has been expelled from school because of poor grades in her Kinder garden class."

The girl's father also questioned the efficiency of the school and condemned the school management for putting the blame squarely on the parents. "If our child has not been able to perform well, there are doubts about the efficiency of the school. It was uncharitable for the management to simply put the blame on the parents. I believe, on the contrary,  if they found any child weak in studies, they should have focused more on such children. We have never faltered to pay the tuition fees on time", he said.

Meanwhile, Child Rights Activist Miguel Das Queah has also condemned the incident. "Some of these private schools blatantly flout the Right to Education law. In a day and age where child rights are at the frontline of every National discourse, this action by the Holy Child School is morally repugnant and uncharitable. I urge the State to take stern action against the school and set a precedent that would deter private schools from acting in similar ways in the future", he said.
