74 students have been expelled for adopting unfair means in the ongoing HSLC/ANM examinations in Hailakandi district.
Disclosing this, Inspector of Schools, Rajiv Kumar Jha said of the 74 expelled, 23 were expelled during Social Science exam followed by 19 in General Mathematics, 15 in English, 13 in General Science and 4 in Assamese. There were altogether 620 absentees.
Two invigilators have been issued show cause for being negligent in performing their duties.
Jha said the district administration has taken a slew of initiatives to curb unfair means by forming flying squads, engaging supervising officers and enforcing Section 144 Criminal Procedure Code (CRPC) within a 200-metre radius of the examination centres to stop assembling of five or more persons. The examination is going on in 16 examination centres across the district.
Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli visited one of the examination centres located at Harkishore High School on Monday to oversee the conduct of the examination. She went around the examination halls and motivated the invigilators to remain pro-active for the tasks at hand. Jalli instructed the Headmistress, Sankari Chakraborty to ensure examination is held in a free and fair manner.
