Kokrajhar, April 9, 2020:

Nearly 75,000 quarantined people are going to be moved to their respective districts from Friday onwards after medical check-ups, confirmed Assam Finance and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday.

On Thursday, Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited at Srirampur quarantine centre along the inter-state border with West Bengal to take stock of people, including several pilgrims, who have been quarantined in the wake of the corona outbreak.

Taking to Twitter, the Health Minister wrote about the people stranded at the border outpost. "Some Assam citizens were stuck on Bengal border in Srirampur as they were in transit the day lockdown was imposed. They completed their 14-day quarantine. We're initiating process to send them back homes after check up. I visited & enquired about health with my colleagues", he wrote.

 

Sarma said that the state government and health department in particular is working hard to control the spread of Coronavirus across the state and accordingly, many quarantine centres have been set up. He said that from early in the morning today, medical staffs including MPW, ANM, doctors etc have checked on the quarantined persons for any symptoms ahead of their release.

He further informed that all persons so far have been found to be healthy and the discharging board is taking decision to discharge the quarantined persons from Friday.

Many thousand people including youths were out of the state in search of jobs, but they ended up being stranded to check the spread of the COVID-19, he said.

Sarma further informed that para-medical staffs and doctors have been deployed to check health conditions of the quarantined persons besides maintaining social distancing in their living quarters.

He informed that the state government and the health department have initiated jointly to fight against computer COVID-19 as nationwide lockdown was declared across the country.

Dr Sarma has also appealed all sections of the society across the state not to believe in rumours amid reports that there have been several 'fake news' contents circulating on online media amid the lockdown. Calling attention to the reports of 'fake news' in the midst of the crisis, he said that some people are indulging in the spread of fake information and messages among the citizens which has been creating chaos in society. He informed that the Chief Minister, he himself and the Chief Secretary of the state are giving necessary informations regarding the preventive measures or inputs on the Coronavirus across the state.

Sarma also asked the bank authorities to take necessary steps to ensure financial transaction measures by ensuring door-to-door services in order to conform to the social distancing norms that have been put in place due to the lockdown.
