Guwahati, October 9, 2018:

Construction of an 76-feet-tall Bharat Mata statue is underway ahead of Durga Puja celebrations in Bishnupur area of Guwahati. The statue with Indian map on the background has already started attracting people from all over the state. The construction of the statue started from July itself. The huge statue is being constructed using Polystyrene which is expected to be ready for public display by October 10.

The total budget of the puja is over Rs 35 lakhs. Local artistes Manjit Kalita of Pathsala and Jyoti Shankar Bhattacharjee of Guwahati have been entrusted the work. The duo have worked in blockbuster Assamese movies like Mission China and Village Rockstars. The Governor of Assam Prof Jagdish Mukhi will formally inaugurate the puja on October 14.

Speaking to InsideNe, Media Advisor of Bishnupur Sarbajanin Durga Puja Samiti Prashanta Ghosh said “through this theme, we want to tell the people that India is lagging behind because of corruption. We would appeal to join hands and make India the number one nation in the world.”

The Bishnupur Sarbajanin Durga Puja Samiti on earlier occasions has attracted huge crowds by the construction of a 102 feet tall Durga idol made of Bamboo and Durga with 28 hands.
