82 Cattle Along with Internationally-Linked Smuggler Nabbed in Assam

Nagaon, October 23, 2019:

The Nagaon Police on Wednesday nabbed an internationally-linked cattle smuggler from Rupohihat of Nagaon, along with eight others, and rescued 82 cattle that were carried in two trucks to the Bangladesh border. The police also seized Rs 4.35 lakh from his possession.

According to sources, the internationally linked cattle smuggler, identified as Amarul Hussain hails from Cachar district of Assam. Amarul Hussain was travelling in a Swift Dzire car bearing registration of Meghalaya along with the 82 cattle. He was intercepted by Nagaon DSP, Manas Saikia, along with his team led by John Das. The team also nabbed eight smugglers among them, four hail from Rupahihat, while four others hail from Cachar and Meghalaya.

It has been alleged that a huge number of cattle are being smuggled from Upper Assam to Bangladesh and the smugglers have managed to evade police and media. The official sources said that hundreds of cattle were being transported to Bangladesh via Meghalaya.

In the past three months, Nagaon Police have recovered 1,262 cattle and nabbed 14 smugglers, who were indulging in smuggling activities. The police also seized 51 vehicles used to smuggle cattle. A total of 25 cases have been registered in Nagaon Police Station in relation to cattle smuggle.
