The Rongmongwe Police issued notices against owners of nine stone quarries in Karbi Anglong, under Section 149 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
The owners of nine stone quarries were asked to submit their legal documents of stone mining operations in the Karbi Anglong hills in the locality of Kaziranga National Park (KNP) and Tiger Reserve.
The notices sent to the nine stone quarries are – Silimkhuwa Stone Quarry, quarry near Kunjury, quarry near Harmuti Killing Gaon, quarry near Bordeka, quarries near Bagori Dhin.
The notice stated- fresh extraction of minerals/stones is going on unabatedly and with full and complete knowledge of forest department. The mining operations are not carried out by the person on whose name the permissions were obtained, but carried out by somebody else which is a Benami transaction. [sic]
The owners were asked to submit copies of self-certified documents of their mining plan, clearance/approval they obtained from the Environment Impact Assessment Authority, certificates issued by the concerned authority. Also the notice asked to submit a copy of the order of the high court if any, which has permitted mining operations.
A copy of the notice was also sent to the Registrar (Judicial) of the Guwahati High Court.
