Five CRPF jawans were martyred and three others were injured on Wednesday when terrorists carried out an attack on a busy road in Anantnag district of South Kashmir. An inspector of Jammu and Kashmir Police also sustain critical injuries. Nirod Sarma, who hails from Nalbari district of Assam, was among those killed in the dastardly attack.
Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was expressed his condolences and in a tribute to the martyr on Twitter, he wrote: "I am anguished at the dastardly militant attack on CRPF personnel in Anantnag which claimed 5 lives including Nirod Sarma of Nalbari, who leaves behind his wife and 2 small kids. My heartfelt condolences to families of the martyrs. May God give them inner strength."
The maytred soldiers have been identified as: ASI Ramesh Kumar, resident of Jhajjar, Haryana; ASI Nirod Sarma, resident of Nalbari, Assam; CT Satendra Kumar resident of Muzaffarnagar UP; CT Mahesh Kr Kushwaha,resident of Gazipur UP; and CT Sandeep Yadav, resident of Dewas MP.
According to officials, at least two terrorists attacked a patrol party of the CRPF on the busy KP Road in Anantnag with automatic rifles followed by the hurling of grenades.
Meanwhile, Pro-Pakistan terrorist group Al-Umar Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, Government sources have opined that it is more likely the handiwork of the active militant organization, Jaish-e-Mohammed.
