Aadhaar could help detect immigrants: HS Brahma

Former Chief Election Commissioner HS Brahma feels that Aadhaar could be a shield for the indigenous people of Northeast.

“The governments of Meghalaya and Manipur should insist that every indigenous people should have Aadhaar card to identify themselves so that illegal migrants could be easily identified and deported from the Northeast,” Brahma said.

“The Government of Assam should take measures to complete the process of Aadhaar. Aadhaar is the best,” he added.

His comments came close on the heels of the publication of complete draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC). The draft’s publication made some states of Northeast, particularly Meghalaya, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh, to heighten security along their border with Assam to thwart the possible influx of illegal immigrants.
