The All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) on Tuesday demanded strict action against the perpetrators of the heinous hate crime in Assam’s Biswanath Chariali in which a Muslim man, Shaukat Ali, was forced to eat pork after being accused of selling beef at his hotel.
In a Memorandum sent to Chief Minister of Assam, the AAMSU demanded calls for stern and exemplary punishment against the culprits in accordance with law.
They have also demanded that the police reaction in this incident seemed to be one-sided and thereby raised high concern about their neutrality and their commitment towards law.
They demanded an independent and high-level inquiry in regard to this incident “to meet the ends of justice.”
It may be mentioned that multiple arrests have been made so far in regards to the incident. Three more persons were arrested on April 9 in relation to violence against the Muslim man. They have been identified as Dipak Koal, Subhal Koal, and Jinto Saikia. A fourth accused in the case, named Dipen Gogoi, had been apprehended earlier in the day.
