AASU DEMANDS IMMEDIATE ARREST OF SATINATH BARAL

Guwahati, October 1, 2018:

Patanjali Yogpeeth yoga instructor Satinath Baral’s ‘derogatory’ statements against Vaisnavite Saint Srimanta Sankardeva irks several organizations in Assam. Several organizations have filed FIRs against Satinath Baral in various police stations across the state. The first FIR was lodged at the Sualkuchi Police Station by the Satradhikar of Ishwar Shree Shree Hati Satra, Sualkuchi, Rajiv Lochan.

The Hindu Yuva Chattra Parishad, Assam has lodged an FIR at the Geetanagar Police Station in Guwahati. Another organization Aikyo Sena has lodged an FIR at the Pan Bazaar Police Station in the city.

It may be mentioned that Satinath Baral, on September 28 last had said in a yoga camp in Darrang district that Srimanta Sankardev is not a saint and there is nothing spiritual about Namghar’s in Assam. Baral also said that the use of mustard oil for lighting of earthen lamp in Namghars is foolishness.

The All Assam Students Union has demanded immediate arrest of Satinath Baral. Speaking to InsideNe, it’s General Secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi held the state government responsible for showing patronage to Patanjali. Several units of the students union also demanded imposition of total ban on Patanjali products in Assam.

Meanwhile, the Patanjali authorities has tendered unconditional apology for the statements made by Baral.
