The Margherita unit of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) has demanded that Pabitra Gogoi's honorary title of 'Margherita' must be revoked due to his apparent silence over the issue of the 'CAA'.
Margherita Regional Student Union along with various organizations and local people of Margherita took out a torch light rally from North Margherita Rangancha to oppose the controversial CAA.

Chintu Gogoi, the President of the Margherita regional students' union said that BJP leader Pabitra Margherita, who is the Chairman of 'Jyoti Chitrabon' should immediately withdraw his title of 'Margherita' as it has been given by the people of Margherita as a token of love and respect towards Pabitra Gogoi, who is a permanent resident of the Tinsukia town.
Pabitra Gogoi has not raised his voice regarding the controversial CA(A) over which all of Assam, along with the rest of the country is burning, the Margherita AASU leader alleged.
Meanwhile, the people of Margherita, along with the student organizations, have decided to ban both Margherita, and his wife, Gayatri Mahanta, from Bihu functions in the town.
Earlier, Six prominent celebrities from the Assamese cultural sphere, including Pabitra Margherita and Gayatri Mahanta, had been ‘boycotted’ by 26 Bihu committees from Dibrugarh district of Assam, allegedly due to their ‘support’ for the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act, that has sparked nationwide protests. Priyanka Bharali, Krishnamoni Chutia, Nayan Nilim, Akash Deep, have also been boycotted.
