Guwahati, December 30, 2019:

The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has announced to launch a series of agitation across the state to mark their protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit.

As per the AASU’s announcement, the students’ body will hold meetings, marches, and other agitation programs all across Assam from January 1, 2020.

Addressing the media, AASU chief adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya, president Dipankar Nath and General Secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi threatened, “If Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Assam to inaugurate the upcoming sports event, ‘Khelo India’, the protests against Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) will be intensified further.”

It may be mentioned that the much-awaited Khelo India is scheduled to be held in Guwahati from January 10 to January 22, 2020.

The AASU leaders stated that, on January 31, the students’ body will extend its support to the government employees opposing the C(A)A.

In the series of protest programs, the AASU has announced state-wide tributes to the five martyrs of the C(A)A agitation, who died during firing by police.

On January 3, state-wide protests will be launched against the contentious Act under the banner of the AASU.

On January 9, the students’ body will stage a protest by collaborating with the folk artistes of Assam, themed “men of letters” and instruments standing in solidarity with the AASU against the CAA.

On January 10, the students’ body has announced to oppose PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Assam’s Guwahati, who will be inaugurating Khelo India.

On January 11, all the district units of the AASU will launch protests, and call upon the people of the state to demand the scrapping of the contentious Bill turned Act.
