Tinsukia, December 28, 2019:

Various organizations of Tinsukia district of Assam have united under the banner of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) to join a massive protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act, that has been termed as the 'Last Battle of Saraighat'.

The programme, that is being held at the Senairam Boding Field, has once again seen the presence of many concerned locals, who fear that their identities might be overrun by an influx of Bangladeshi migrants, hopeful of receiving citizenship after the amendment of the Citizenship Act by the Narendra Modi-led BJP regime.

The faces of young students are especially standing out at the AASU-led protest, as the new generation is taking active participation in the protest. Students from the Tinsukia College, Women's College and Tinsukia Commerce College are spearheading the protest, where they have issued a 'war cry' to the BJP-led Central Government for implementing the much-feared CAA.

Apart from the students, citizens of Tinsukia, from all religions and communities, took part in the protest and the protest ground echoed with slogans of Joi Aai Axom'.

It may be mentioned here that the name of the protest: Last Battle of Saraighat, bears extra significance, as the ruling BJP had come to power on the pretext of waging a 'Battle of Saraighat' against the forces aimed at destroying the jati, mati, bheti.
