At a time when the state of Assam in its entirety is on the boil over the amendment of the Citizenship Amendment Act, an All Assam Students' Union (AASU) leader has reportedly gone missing in Tinsukia district of the State, where protests against the Bill-turned-Act are on in full flow.
Biju Gogoi, who is the of the Assistant General Secretary of the Pengeri unit of the AASU, has been missing since January 3. According to reports, the AASU leader was last seen a public rally against the amendment of the Citizenship Act in Tinsukia town, the headquarters of the district.

According to reports, the AASU leader had messaged the President of the Pengeri AASU, informing that he has set out from in a bid to safeguard the interests of the jaati (nationality) of the Assamese. Meanwhile, the youth's parents have lodged an FIR at the Pengeri Police station, and police have begun operations to locate the missing AASU leader.
It may be mentioned here that the Northeast Indian states continue to be up-in-arms against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, which they believe will undermine the sacrosanct Assam Accord, alter the demography of the region, and impact the culture of the indigenous people of the region.
