All Assam Students' Union (AASU) leader Samujjal Bhattacharya on Saturday expressed his displeasure with the final outcome with the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
While interacting with Inside Northeast, Bhattacharya said that for 40 years, the people of Assam, have sought a solution for the vexed problem of illegal immigration.
"The exclusion figure which is out today is not near to the number that is declared by the Central and State Governments", he complained, adding that "we are not running after the figure, but we expected more".

Stating that the solution to solving this vexed problem lies in the Assam Accord, he added that any attempt to violate the clauses of the Assam Accord will be opposed by the people of Assam", he said. "The Central and the State Governments have failed us miserably", he lamented.
The AASU leader said that he will appeal before the Supreme Court of India for "immediate measures", adding that he has 'full faith' in the Supreme Court. "Perhaps there is some 'error' in the NRC, or perhaps it is incomplete. For remedial measures, we will approach the Supreme Court of India", he added.
Earlier, Samujjal Bhattacharya had slammed some "communal forces" for trying to disrupt the NRC process. The student leader had alleged that "some forces are trying to protect the Hindu Bangladeshi votebanks, and the Muslim Bangladeshi votebanks. They should stop doing that".
