The All Assam Students Organization has been staging mass agitations against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 across the state. With the fate of the Bill lying in the balance, the AASU has kept up its pressure on the Central Government to scrap the Bill by continuing protests and boycotts against the ruling administration.
Staging a 10-hour protest on Monday, the AASU have started a statewide hunger strike in protest against THE contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. Meanwhile, the members of the umbrella body, the North East Students Organisation (NESO) have been visiting MPs and leaders of the opposition to gather support in the protests against the Bill.
The 10-hour hunger strike started from 6 am on Monday. Members of the organization have been staging the hunger strike at every district and sub-divisional headquarters of the state.

Members of the Koilabor, AASU while speaking to the media condemned Assam Chief Sarbananda Sonowal’s stand on the bill. “The cultures and the stand of the indigenous people should be saved”, he added.
