The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) leader Lurinjyoti Gogoi has termed the reports of formation of new political party as false and alleged that some “middlemen” were trying to mislead the people of Assam.
While attending a massive gathering against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA in Tinsukia’s Kordoiguri, the AASU leader said, “The AASU or the Yuba Chhatra Parishad has never said that they would form a new political party. Some middlemen of the government are trying to mislead people in this case. They want to reestablish the scene of AGP, which was birthed from AASU, and later betrayed the people of Assam.”

However, Lurinjyoti also said that AASU would follow the public interest. “Since there are rumors now, people would obviously look at us with suspicion. People are discussing because their trust is broken. Whom will they vote for in the coming elections? BJP, AGP…Congress, all of these have betrayed them. How will the vacuum in the politics be filled?” he questioned, putting forth the need for a "political alternative" for the people.

Truth has to be told to them and trust has to be regained and public’s faith has to be restored, said Lurinjyoti Gogoi, adding that AASU would continue to work for the public's interest and exhorted the people not be "misled" by such rumours.
