TAMULPUR: An infant is expected to be okay after she was found wrapped in a traditional gamusa cloth in front of a Kali temple in the Dighalipar area of Tamulpur in the Bodoland Territorial Region's Baksa district.

A youth found the baby around 6:45 pm in the evening today and disclosed it was lying right in the middle of the road.

"I was riding on my bike when I saw the baby lying in the middle of the road, wrapped in a piece of cloth. I was attracted to the baby due to its cries. I could not resist picking it up and rushed for help."

The concerned youth and his friend took the child to the nearby government hospital where she is currently being examined.

The child is expected to be kept overnight at the hospital and will be placed in the care of Child Protective Services.

Hospital authorities have said that they have given thermal warming to the child so it does not get sick from the cold.

They have also informed the local police who are expected to visit soon to initiate an inquiry into the matter.
