Kokrajhar, August 6, 2019:

After the Indian Government's announcement to abrogate Article 370 and 35A and bifurcation of Kashmir into two Union Territories, indigenous organizations have intensified their demand for a separate Boroland.

This demand has been raised by the All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU), National Democratic Front of Boroland (Progressive), and Joint Action Committee for Boroland.

These organizations have demanded the Government to bifurcate the State of Assam into two: Assam and Boroland.

Supporting the Government's decision to scrap the Article 370, which provided separate constitutional safeguards to the people of Kashmir, the organizations stated that the Bodoland issue should be similarly resolved.

NDFB (P) leader Gobinda Basumatary said that "The agitations will continue until our demands are resolved."

ABSU leader Pramod Boro said that "Peace and prosperity will prevail once the BTAD area gets statehood."

Addressing the media, he said "if violence in Kashmir is enough for the Government to provide a solution, we have seen violence aplenty in the BTAD area for there to be the need for a separate Boroland."

Moreover, Boro, under the banner of 'National Federation for New States', stated that since the Government has the ability to create new states/UTs, separate states for the indigenous communities are also a must as these areas are in constant turmoil and facing the problem of violence on a daily basis.

"Therefore, it is time that the Government immediately creates the states of Bodoland, Gorkhaland, Vidarbha, Tipraland, Kukiland, Bundelkhand, Poorvanchal, and Autonomous States of Karbi Anglong", read a communique issued by the National Federation for New States. The body further urged the Government to initiate steps in this regard.
