ABSU Welcomes ‘Peace Talks’ between NDFB(S) & Govt of India

Kokrajhar, January 12, 2020:

The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) has appealed to the Government of India and the members of the banned insurgent group, National Democratic Front of Bodoland – Saoraigwra (NDFB-S) to have a dialogue and work towards peace and development.

ABSU has observed that the arrival of the NDFB-S members is a sign of sustainable peace in the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) of Assam.

“We appeal to the Government of India and NDFB-S to solve the issues and work for permanent peace. We welcome the peace talks between the two for permanent peace in BTAD areas and Assam,” said General Secretary, ABSU, Lawrence Islary.

The leaders and cadres of the banned insurgent group have, reportedly, returned to India on Saturday for peace talks with the Government.  ABSU has welcomed the move that is considered as a major step towards peace in the region.

The Indian Army escorted the 50 leaders and cadres of NDFB-S on Saturday from Myanmar border to an undisclosed Army base amid protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).

The arrival of the rebel outfit’s members is, reportedly, being monitored by the Home Ministry directly and the leaders would be taken to Delhi for the peace talks. The development is being viewed as a major step towards promoting peace in the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) of Assam.
