Call it the fallout of Narendra Modi government’s move to pass the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 to dump the Bengali Hindu immigrants in Assam.
Bollywood singer Shaan was infuriated on Sunday night when someone threw a piece of paper on the stage while he was belting out a song at the Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati. It was not known what exactly was written on it.
In a video clip of the incident that has gone viral on the social media, the singer was seen picking up the piece of paper, reading it and then speaking with a loud at the crowd.
He said, “Don’t make a political issue out of this. Never throw things on an artist. I will fling my mike and it will hurt you more. How dare you?
Learn to respect a performer. If you don’t like it, go away. Never throw things on stage like that”.
After a brief pause, he said: “I am here in very heavy fever and I am under antibiotics. I’m performing all nights for you. And if this is the kind of response and this is the kind of people, I’m not interested. I have come from very far and roam about the world and sang songs of different languages. But if you have to listen to only Assamese songs, then let’s do it. And don’t be a regionalist. We are one country. India is one and Assam is not alone”.
