“After ‘Ram Mandir’ hung in Parliament, BJP adamant to pass CAB to fulfil ‘Hindutva’ agenda”: Akhil GogoiAkhil Gogoi

Guwahati, January 15, 2019:

As the Assamese jati revelled in Bihu celebrations and partook in feasting and merrymaking on ‘Uruka’, one of the prominent sons of the state refused a single morsel of food to protest the implementation of the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, which Akhil perceives as a part of the BJP’s ‘Hindutva’ agenda in light of failure in the other pre-election promise, that is, the construction of a Ram Mandir on Babri Masjid grounds in Ayodhya.

Akhil Gogoi, leader of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) has warned Asomiyas that they have to stay vigilant or else chances are rife that the Bill will be passed through during the interim Budget session on January 31.

Gogoi had announced a 24-hour fast on ‘Uruka’ from 2 pm on 14 December to 15 December. Akhil looked weary yet alert when InsideNe reached Chachal for an exclusive interview at 11:47 pm. “After failure in all regards in the last five years of rule such as demonetization, the BJP government has been left with only one issue prior to the Lok Sabha elections, this, the bringing all Hindus to Assam. The construction of the ‘Ram Mandir’ is hanging in balance due to intervention of the Supreme Court, so the government have become very adamant”, alleged Gogoi.

The peasant leader also informed that although the BJP’s alliances in the Northeast are hanging by a tenuous thread due to distaste over the Bill, Assam BJP are trying to implement the Bill at all costs.

“Assam public is praying to the ‘Jatiya Nayak’ Sarbananda Sonowal to intervene in the matter, but he is mum on the issue. He has required helicopters to travel to his own constituency from nearby Dibrugarh”, Gogoi added, slamming Assam's 'Jatiya Nayak' Cm Sarbananda Sonowal.

Gogoi addressed the media after the end of his fast period at 2 pm and thanked Assamese media as well as the protesting people of Assam. He expressed confidence that Assamese people will ensure that the Bill will be withdrawn thanks to the untiring efforts of the Assamese people. “If the Bill is not withdrawn, people of Assam will take to the streets and will stage a stage a revolution,” warned the peasant leader.
