Guwahati, March 14, 2019:

Lambasting the AGP-BJP alliance, leader of opposition in the Assam Assembly Debabrata Saikia on Wednesday alleged that the AGP, by realigning with the BJP, has betrayed the people of Assam.

Saikia further that the alliance is a “shameless” act of the AGP party as they know that if the BJP retains power after the upcoming elections, the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, something that the AGP party is ideologically opposed to, will be enacted.

Saikia also alleged that the party joined the BJP due to the “lure of power. “The lure of power has prevailed over the responsibilities of the regional party. By joining hands with the BJP once again, the AGP betrayed the people of Assam”, he said.

Lastly, he criticized the reunion as the “most repulsive instance of opportunism and hypocrisy”.

It is to be mentioned that the AGP party had parted ways with the BJP on January 7 amid the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 ruckus.
