The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) General Secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that the aim is to ensure that no politician gets to run a television channel or a newspaper in Assam.
The statement indirectly was targeted at Assam's Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who owns TV channel operating from Guwahati. He said, “Our aim is to make sure that no politician is able to start a news channel or newspaper for themselves to circulate their message.”
He continued to hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stating that their aim was to protect the future of Assam but not like the BJP, which offers Rs. 500-1000 to the people and ruin their future by bringing in the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

Gogoi was speaking at the Cultural Protest organised by the Artistes’ Society of Assam in Guwahati’s Jalukbari on Sunday. He was among the thousands who came out opposing the implementation of the CAA. Their demand is to scrap the controversial CAA, which threatens the culture and language of the northeastern state.
“This is a time where the people are fighting to protect their identity as one class of people is trying their best to dilute the identity. They are killing youths and trying to stop the protest but could not do so. No divisive policies or communal politics can divide the people of Assam. We must be very alert of the government’s move as they are trying to divide us in the name of Upper Assam, Lower Assam, hills, plains, etc,” said Lurinjyoti Gogoi.

He reiterated that Assam is fighting to save the ‘language of the mother’, to protect the culture from the government. “They know that the Assamese community cannot be dominated so they are trying their best to conspire against this community,” he added.
