DHING: In a bizarre turn of events, the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) was barred from holding a political gathering in Nagaon distict's Dhing for exceeding the maximum limit of 50 persons.

Meanwhile, the AIUDF Party's members have questioned why the Assam Government did not bar the Amit Shah rally in Guwahati.

"This is a fascist Government that always tries to restrict other parties. This is because they want to ensure that there is no competition. Yesterday, there were 20,000 people at Shah's rally. Where were the administration then? There was no COVID-19 protocol then", charged an AIUDF worker. He further claimed that other parties, holding rallies with 200-300 people, were being harassed.

"Look at the recent electioneering in the BTC, where the party drew huge crowds. However, when other parties try to hold rallies, they always provide obstacles," he added.

The Assam chief secretary has issued new guidelines, restricting large gatherings as a measure to prevent the spread of COVID19 infection.

“No gathering in excess of 50 persons shall be organized” with effect from December 24, 2020 till January 10, 2021, said an order issued by Assam chief secretary Jishnu Barua.

In contravention to that, however, the BJP held a mammoth rally upon Shah's arrival in Guwahati.
