GOLAGHAT: Ajanta Neog, former Congresswoman and Assam Minister, today cast her ballot in the Golaghat Constituency in the first phase of polling.
"I have cast my vote for interest of indigenous concerns this time and I hope people will do the same," Neog, who recently joined the BJP party, said after casting her vote.
Neog also said that ever after she joined the BJP, she has received even bigger support.
"The massive support we have received is indeed unprecedented. Everybody must have seen the kind of support we have received and the massive rallies," she added.
Ajanta Neog also exuded confidence that the election "would go in the favour of the NDA-alliance."
"I am certain that our party as we have a stronghold in the Upper Assam region," she said.
Neog along with another Congress MLA Rajdeep Gowala joined the BJP months ahead of the Assam assembly elections.
Neog, a 4-time MLA, and Gowala had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Guwahati on Saturday to finalize their joining.

Soon after, Neog had announced that she will be joining the BJP in the next couple of days.
Both leaders joined the BJP in the presence of Assam BJP president Ranjit Das and BJP's key strategist in the Northeast Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Neog, after joining the saffron party, claimed that while the ruling party is futuristic, the Congress is a "visionless party".
"There is a huge gap in Congress - gap between the party leadership and grassroots workers and that is the main reason we left. There is an isolation of the grassroots workers. Their national leadership doesn't care about what grassroots workers think," Neog said at the joining ceremony.
