Ajmal could be next Assam CM: Shiladitya

BJP MLA from Hojai, Shiladitya Dev, on Saturday predicted that Dhubri MP, Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, would be the next Assam Chief Minister as the names of a large number of Bangladeshi Muslims were included in the “complete draft” of National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Dev felt that Ajmal’s All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) might go on to win about 50 seats in the 126-member Assam Assembly.

Stating that the updation of the NRC based on 1971 as the cut-off year was a mistake, he said it should have been updated with 1951 as the base year. He alleged that the Trinamool Congress team of MPs and MLAs had come to Assam recently to try and protect the interests of the Bangladeshi Muslims.
