GUWAHATI: Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) President Lurin Jyoti has launched a stinging attack on Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his apparent slight towards the martyrs of the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act movement in Assam during his recent visit. Shah, during a public rally, had attacked the leaders of the movement and accused them of "misleading" youths.

Gogoi, lambasting the BJP leader for his insensitive statement, said that Shah has "insulted" the sacrifice of the martyrs by belittling them during his address in Amingaon of Assam, where a massive BJP rally was held yesterday, in flagrant defiance of the prevailing COVID-19 norms, as per which no more than 50 people shall be allowed to attend gatherings.

The AJP President also took aim at Shah for "ignoring" the implementation of the Sixth Schedule of the Assam Accord. It needs mention here that Gogoi, as the General Secretary of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) was part of the High-Level Committee formed to list out recommendations for the implementation of the same.

Shah yesterday while delivering a speech in Guwahati, had launched a scorching attack on the "elements" which are trying to foment rebellion in Assam once again. "Some of those that led the protests are now entering politics. They can never form the Government. All they are trying to do is divert votes towards the Congress party," Shah accosted, taking aim at the regional leaders who have formed parties to contest polls.

Shah, in an apparent attack on the 'CAA' agitators, said that 'andolan' did not give anything to Assam. "What did these agitations give Assam? Was there development? Did people get employment? Did anyone get health infrastructure? All that happened from these movements is that youths were gunned down," Shah asked, taking jibes at the leaders of the agitation.
