Guwahati: Even as the BJP party held a massive 2-day rally in the Barak Valley's Cachar, chants of 'Joi Aai Axom' rend the air in Assam's largest city, Guwahati, which today saw the arrival of the current protagionist of regionalism, Lurin Jyoti Gogoi.

That Gogoi is being felicitated at the site of the Battle if Saraighat is symbolic, as it is the site where the regional forces (the Ahoms) vanquished the foreigners (Mughals). The AJP, which has the 'CAA' as it's major poll plank, seeks to deliver Assam to the hands of regional forces once again.

Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP), one of the newer regional political parties, today reared it's head in Guwahati, where a felicitation ceremony is being held to felicitate it's President, Lurin Jyoti Gogoi.

The fervour of regionalism swept the city, as a bike rally carrying Gogoi and shouting pro-Assamese slogans, made it's way from Khanapara -- on the outskirts of Guwahati -- to the banks of the Brahmaputra at Machkhowa, where a gigantic statue of Ahom Borphupan has been erected which stares out across the the expansive river.

After a bike ride braving the afternoon traffic snarl with fellow AJP members, Lurin finally reached Machkhowa around 3 am, where a sizable crowd has gathered for the AJP meet. 'Ture Mure Yatra', a traditional Assamese song, was sung by a troupe of local girls upon his arrival.

At today's event, Gogoi is also being joined by other AJP leaders such as General Secretary Jagadish Bhuyan and Vice President Adip Phukan, among others.
