DISPUR: Lurin Jyoti Gogoi, the newly-crowned President of the Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP), the regional party that is quickly galloping forward as a dark horse in the ensuing Assam elections, will be facilitated tomorrow near the statue of Veer Lachit Borphukan in Machkhowa, Guwahati.

Jagadish Bhuyan, the General Secretary of the regional party, informed Inside Northeast that the proceedings will begin in Khanapara with a bike rally organized by the AJP.

"The felicitation will begin at Khanapara in Guwahati, where a bike rally will be held. The rally will then snake across the streets of the city, and then reach the statue of the Ahom General Lachit Borphukan, where he will be felicitated by AJP members. It will be an event for the public and many of the party workers will join in the felicitation ceremony," Bhuyan said.

It needs mention here that the AJP, the newly floated regional party backed by the All Assam Students Union and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad, appointed former AASU General Secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi as its first General Secretary, during its very first Political Convention held in Sivasagar district of Upper Assam.

40-year-old Lurinjyoti, a master's in mathematics and education from Dibrugarh University, made it clear that those who have come to Assam between 1951 and 1971 have nothing to fear since they have been accepted as Indians under the Assam Accord. The Lurin-led party will contest all 126 Assembly seats.

It needs mention here that the AJP will continue to oppose the CAA, ensure an error-free NRC and implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam  Accord. It will have no truck with either the Congress or the BJP.
