GUWAHATI: Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) President Lurin Jyoti Gogoi today said that the regional party will "under no circumstance stitch an alliance with the Congress heading into the polls to be held later this year."

At the same time, the AJP Chief asserted that an alliance with fellow regional party 'Raijor Dal' is "most likely", adding that his party is not looking to align itself with any national party to contest the polls. The 'Raijor Dal' has already forwarded a letter to the AJP asking to form an alliance to contest polls.

Gogoi said that the AJP is all for alliances, as long as the allies are "non-communal in nature."

Asked about seat-sharing in the ensuing polls, Saikia opined that "it will take some time for the formalities to be completed; thereafter, we can discuss the other issues such as seat-sharing."

Saikia stated that the 'Raijor Dal' is open to forging alliances "with all the non-communal forces in Assam."

Asked whether his party would be open to forming an alliance with the 'Anchalik Gana Morcha', Saikia stated that "if they steer clear of communal forces like the AIUDF", the 'Raijor Dal' might consider an alliance in the near future.

Meanwhile, Akhil Gogoi, the President of 'Raijor Dal and founder of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), will contest the polls from two Constituencies -- Teok and Sivasagar. "After many discussions and deliberations, it has been finalized that the Raijor Dal supremo shall contest from these two Constituencies -- irrespective of whether he is released or not."

Gogoi was named as the President of the 'Raijor Dal' after the newly floated party’s first-ever state convention came to an end in Upper Assam's Moran.

Dr. Hiren Gogoi has been appointed as the chief advisor of the party and Bhasco D Saikia, Kabindra Chetia Phukan, and Jitul Deka have been inducted as the working presidents of the party.

Earlier, on January 7, the Gauhati High Court rejected the bail plea of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi.

Meanwhile, Assam's Finance, Health, and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that Akhil has been kept behind bars due to his alleged links to "maoists", and not because of his role in the protests against the 'CAA.'
