TINSUKIA: The Asom Jatiyotabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on Thursday burnt the effigy of Assam Forest and Environment Minister Parimal Suklavaidya at NH 38 Ledo College road under Margherita Constituency to stage protest against illegal timber and stone trade.
Kanchan Borah, General Secretary of AJYCP Tinsukia District Committee claimed illegal timber and stone trade have been rampantly going on in the area due to some unscrupulous and vested interest of Forest Department officials and employees.

The state government is losing huge revenue, Borah claimed.
The General secretary further made claims that notorious timber and stone Mafia's such as Bhaikon Dutta, Ranjan Gogoi, Khan,Gunin, Prabhu Sah and Jaiswal control the forest Department for which regularly 50 to 60 trucks illegally loaded with timber and stone ply from Margherita to other parts of Assam.
"I demand Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma to take lawful action against Digboi Forest Division, Divisional Forest Officer of Jagun and Lekhapani Range Forest Office Employees and those timber and stone mafia's otherwise in the coming days AJYCP shall lock the Digboi Forest Division, DFO office permanently", said Borah.
