AJYCP Leaders Demands CM Sonowal to End Illegal Timber Smuggling in Tinsukia's Margheritasmuggling

Margherita, September 12, 2019:

Illegal smuggling of precious trees, extraction of stone and gravel continue at Dehing Patkai Rainforest and Buridehing River at Margherita Region under Tinsukia district.

This has been alleged by Kanchan Bora General Secretary (I/C) of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Tinsukia district committee.

Dehing Patkai Rainforest is famous for precious trees all over North-Eastern states.

However, Kanchan Bora alleged, “Unfortunately with the cooperation of Tinsukia district Administration, Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma, Margherita Administration(C) and Digboi Forest Division Employees and Forest Guard, precious trees are mercilessly chopped by Timber Mafias on daily basis where huge amount of commission is being given by Timber Mafias to the concerned department.”

He further added, “Under Digboi Forest Division such as at Margherita East and West Range Forest office, Lekhajan Forest Beat office, Jagun Forest Range office and Lekhapani Forest Range office Timber Mafias such as Gunin,Waris, Patowary and Chetia surname have chopped several precious trees from Upper Dehing Rainforest where Stone Mafias have illegally extracted stone and gravel from Buridehing river. Margherita MLA, Bhaskar Sharma is giving full support to Timber and Stone Mafias.”

Following this, the AJYCP has demanded Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to raise his voice against illegal smuggling.
