For Gogoi's swearing-in ceremony, he was escorted to Dispur from GMCH by the central jail officials and Akhil Gogoi alleged that the security personnel manhandled him.

"This is an insult to the whole Assamese Community. Is this how to behave with an elected legislator standing in Assembly," heard Gogoi shouting at the security personnel.

Gogoi also alleged that police flouted COVID-19 protocol as well

security personnel could be seen stopping Akhil Gogoi from interacting with the media and hence they were pushing Gogoi toward the Assembly which had irked Akhil Gogoi.

Akhil Gogoi, who has won the polls from behind the bars without even being able to campaign for himself, was administered the oath by Pro-tem speaker Phani Bhushan Choudhury today.

“Democracy has been murdered, this is fascism. The police opted for violence instead of a peaceful interrogation,” Gogoi added.

Today as many as 90 MLAs have sworn in as the Assembly is being run with 50 per cent attendance keeping COVID protocols in mind.

36 MLAs to sworn in on Saturday this week.

The session will conclude on May 24.
