DISPUR: Assam's firebrand MLA Akhil Gogoi today scorched the state government over its failure to provide the second dose of COVID-19 jab.
Out of 37 states and union territories, Assam's position is in the 33rd position, Gogoi said citing from his sources on the state's Assembly grounds
He further said that only 4.33% people in the state have received the second dose of the vaccine.
According to the Assam government, the state has reported a total of 33,961 Covid-19 cases and 398 deaths in the last 15 days.
According to the Assam health department, 85.41 lakh people have been inoculated till July 15 and out of them, 70.72 lakh people have received the first dose while 14.69 lakh have received both doses.
"Therefore, Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta's statement that Assam has received more vaccines in comparison to other states is false," Gogoi said.

Akhil Gogoi has demanded the government to expedite the vaccination process and finish the first stage of inoculations by August 15 next. He also said that government must also stop taking donations for procuring vaccines as these are being given for "free" by the Central government.
There are a total of 2.33 crore eligible individuals in Assam, but only 14.69 lakh have so far received both doses of the vaccine.
