Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi on Tuesday demanded amendment of the Sixth Clause of the Assam Accord and allotment of Scheduled Tribe status to the six agitating indigenous communities of Assam.
Akhil Gogoi, while addressing the media said: “Himanta Biswa Sarma and Sarbananda Sonowal don’t want Assam Accord to be amended. Now, there is no Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, no protest and we are all supporting the grant of Scheduled Tribe status to the six indigenous communities of Assam.”
Claiming that Modi has ‘cheated’ the people of Assam for five years, Gogoi urged that the time has finally come to grant ST status to the six communities who currently belong to the Other Backward Classes (OBC). He also stated that the KMSS, along with 70 organizations and All Assam Student Union (AASU), along with 30 organizations, had the same demand of implementation of Sixth Clause of Assam Accord, but not at the cost of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill being imposed.
