Guwahati, January 11, 2020:

Renowned Journalist from Assam on Saturday called Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) Chief Akhil Gogoi an uncompromising leader and that the government fears such uncompromising leaders.

In an exclusive interview with Inside Northeast, Bhuyan said, “Once he was arrested under National Security Agency (NSA), under some other Acts but Akhil is an uncompromising leader. They fear the leaders who are uncompromising, whom they cannot persuade. So to weaken the movement, they thought that if we arrest this man.”

He went to say that the government knew that the NSA would not be able to keep him for a long time. “So, they used the NIA. In his speeches, he had appealed people for a peaceful and democratic agitation. So, in order to set an example and just to terrorize agitators, they arrested him,” he said.

Calling the current Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government fascist and autocratic, Bhuyan said, “They have minimum respect for democracy. This has been proved in many issues. Yesterday’s Gazette Notification on CAA proves that they do not believe in democracy. They believe in autocracy. No democratic country would have done this.”

Bhuyan further alleged that first the BJP government was trying to divide Northeast first and then Assam. “They are trying to divide Assam with the motive to weaken the movement. They are using the entire administration to collect people. They are also threatening people, bribing them. They are announcing so many things to show that Assam is rich and happy and people are benefitted. They are trying to show that people of Assam are with them as they know very well that majority of them have opposed their decision.”
