The All Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) has asked all Koch-Rajbongshi people not to vote in favour of the BJP in the upcoming panchayat elections.
Accusing the BJP of betraying the community and not fulfilling its demands, the AKRSU burnt the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at several places of Assam on Wednesday.
AKRSU general secretary Gokul Barman alleged the BJP had betrayed the Koch-Rajbongshis by giving them “false hopes”.
“The BJP has never shown any interest in solving issues such as the ST status and the demand of a separate Kamatapur state. Since they betrayed and deprived us, we have decided not to vote for them in the coming panchayat elections. We have appealed to all our people not to vote for them,” he said.
The AKRSU will hold a mass protest in Guwahati on November 20 followed by a bike rally which will be taken out from every district in the state on November 22.
“We will enforce an indefinite national highway blockade from December 11,” Barman said.
