Guwahati, September 6, 2019:

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair the 68th Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council scheduled to be held on the 8th and 9th September, in Guwahati city of Assam.

The 68th Plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) is being held in Guwahati on the 8th & 9th September, 2019 under the chairmanship of the Union Home Minister, and Chairman, NEC. The meeting would be attended by the MoS (Independent Charge), Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) & Vice Chairman NEC, members of the NEC consisting of the Governors and Chief Ministers of the eight northeastern states and other members.

Senior officials from the states and key Ministries of the Government of India are also expected to be present.

During the two-day session, there will be presentations from the Min of DoNER, NEC, the state governments as well as a few selected Central Ministries on various developmental issues which are critical to the Region.

The Plenary, headed by Shah, is expected to deliberate on the progress of ongoing projects, outlays by Central Ministries in the North Eastern Region and plans for the period beyond March 2020, when the Fourteenth Finance Commission term comes to an end.

Meanwhile, the Assam State BJP party has also expressed a desire to raise their concerns regarding the recently published National Register of Citizens (NRC) with Amit Shah, as it has been alleged that many indigenous people have been left out.
