Ankushita Boro a gold medalist in the World Youth Women's Boxing Championship, is officially appointed as the ‘brand ambassador’ of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme of the Kamrup Metropolitan District, Assam.
In a function organised on the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 8 at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Sarbananda Sonowal the Chief Minister of Assam designated Ankushita.
The programme had been jointly organised by the State government’s Department of Social Welfare and the Assam State Social Welfare Board. This tribal girl hails from the nondescript Meghai Jarani village in Sonitpur district of upper Assam who achieved to earn a gold medal in the world youth women boxing championship. Her next target is the world elite women's championship in India and the 2020 Olympics. She is the Assam’s newest younger boxing sensation and with the increase in medals share for women’s boxing in the Olympics owing to the International Olympic Committee’s stress on gender equality, Ankushita’s feat may act as the trigger point for India.
