Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Ripun Bora on Wednesday criticized the Narendra Modi led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government over the economic slowdown of the Indian economy and defection of Congress leaders to the BJP.
Addressing the media, Ripun Bora said that the GDP growth rate has declined to 5.8 percent against the expected 6.5 percent, which is a 20 percent decline to the previous year’s growth of 7.3 percent. "The rate of inflation in July 2019 is 3.2 percent which is highest in the last 9 months. This is due to the rise in food prices", he said.

“There is a massive reduction in the automobile industry by 23.3 percent. The vehicle loan rate dipped to 5.1 percent which is the lowest in the last 5 years. Moreover, two-wheeler sale dropped to 12 percent which is the biggest since 2009,” he added.
All these factors have also affected the agricultural sector as the sale of tractors has also declined by 14 percent as stated by the Congress leader.
Ripun Bora also added, “There are reports that there is a 79 percent decline in new investment, and 30 79 percent of the government project are in a stagnant position. Simultaneously, In 30 major cities, 1.3 M houses are left unsold which have led to a huge fall in steel, electrical industry, cement, etc.’
He added, “All the banks are having 10 lakh crore NPA and major PSUs like BSNL, Post, LIC all in a loss. Also, in the last 45 years, a 6 percent unemployment rate has been reported which is the highest.”
Bora further added that in the next two months 10 lakh jobs will be lost in the country, among which 3 lakh have already been facing the axe. “Within 6 months, a great depression will be experienced in India, as reported by international organizations,” he added.
Moreover, Bora added that the defection of Congress leaders like Santiuse Kujur, RP Singh, Gautam Roy, and Bhubaneswar Kalita cannot hamper the ideology of the party. “The APCC with visiting the constituency of these MLAs and Ministers and carry out rallies to show that the Trinamool workers have not gone to the BJP..”
Slamming the intake of the Congress leaders into the BJP party, Bora compares the defection to that of market sales and mentioned that the Congress party is least bothered about it.
