Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president and Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora is in troubled water yet again. The Daniel Topno murder case has started haunting Bora again as the hearing of the case will resume in the Gauhati High Court soon.

Bora is one of the prime accused in the murder case though he has been acquitted by the Kamrup District and Sessions Judge Court in 2014 owing to lack of confidence. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) who is investigating the case has decided to bring it to the High Court. Though there had been no hearing of the case since 2014, it was only when one Pabitra Hazarika filed an RTI seeking information into the case that a hearing was scheduled on February 24 this year. However, there was no hearing on the said date.

Hearing the revision petition on October 5, a bench of chief justice (acting) and Justice MA Ali had fixed October 20 as the date of next hearing. Gauhati High Court had asked Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to place before it the records of the murder of Daniel Topno.

It may be mentioned that Daniel Topno was a tea garden community student leader. Topno was murdered under mysterious circumstances on 27 September, 2000 in Gohpur. Topno had contested against Ripun Bora in the 1996 Assam Assembly Election from Gohpur constituency on All India Tiwari Congress ticket.
