APSC cash-for-job scam | CID registers new case against Rakesh Paul

Guwahati, October 12, 2018:

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has registered a case against suspended chairman of the Assam Public Service Commission, Rakesh Paul for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a candidate.

As per sources, the CID registered the case under Sections 120 (b)/420 and section 7/13 (b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act based on a FIR lodged by Sun Kumar Baishya, the uncle of the candidate named Dhrubajyoti Baishya.

Meanwhile, 22 accused in the infamous APSC cash-for-job were granted bail by the Gauhati High Court on Thursday.

The Court was also supposed to hear the bail petition of Rakesh Paul but the hearing was deffered and it will be heard today.

The accused who were granted bail are Rituraj Neog, Monika Terongpi, Bornali Devi, Leena Krishna Kakoti, Manjir Ilahi Laskar, Saibur Rahman Borbhuyan, Ganesh Chandra Das, Bonti Sengupta, Daithun Borgiari, Gulshan Daolagapu, Pallabi Sarma, Sushuban Das, Mustafa Ahmed Borbhuyan, Manash Pratim Haloi, Dipshika Phukan, Moon Mazumdar and Bhargav Phukan.

It may be mentioned that 15 out of the 22 accused were arrested on July 18 and so far 41 accused have been granted bail.
