ARMY ELIMINATES TOP NDFB CADRE IN CHIRANG

An insurgent belonging to National Democratic Front of Bodoland (S) faction was gunned down in a fierce encounter during a joint operation by the Army and Police in Chirang district. Acting on specific information, the Army and Police teams launched a joint operation to nab the notorious insurgent, who was NIA wanted cadre. On being challenged the insurgent opened heavy fire on the security forces and was neutralized in the ensuring gun battle. The insurgent has been identified as the Platoon Commander Jaolang of the Chirang Districy of NDFB(S) and was instrumental in controlling all extortion, kidnapping, recruitment of new cadres to strengthen NDFB(S). Recoveries made are one 7.62 pistol, one .22 pistol and one hand grenade. Neutralization of Jaolang Platoon Commander in Chirang by team of 5^th Garhwal Rifles and Police is a big setback to NDFB(S) and boost to counter insurgency operations against insurgents in lower Assam.
