NEW DELHI: After the Paresh Baruah-led faction of the United Liberation Front of Axom (ULFA-I) claimed to have carried out a blast at Digboi yesterday evening, the Indian army termed it as an "imaginary event."

The said banned organisation has stooped to such levels wherein they are attempting to derive mileage from imaginary events, the army claimed in a release issued earlier today.

"After intensive investigation with police and other locals living in the area, no evidence of any such blast has been found," the statement further read, adding, "Indian Army hereby refutes this and clarifies that no such incident has occurred at Digboi and this claim of ULFA (I) is false, baseless and reflects on its hollowness."

The army in its statement further alleged that the ULFA (I) is "looking to sensationalize crackers and tire bursts as successful bomb blasts by making false claims."

The Indian army in its release further asserted that it is "fully geared and prepared to thwart any attempts by the ULFA (I) to disturb peace and tranquility in the area."

"A close and discreet vigil on the silent supporters of this banned organization is also being kept by the security forces and these inimical elements will be put behind the bars very soon as part of the well thought out strategy," it said.

It needs mention here that locals of Digboi town yesterday reported a blast near the army camp of the 3 Garhwal Rifles. Although shards from the blast site flew in all directions, no injuries were reporteded. The ULFA (I) was quick to claim full responsibility for the blasts.
